A collection of 504 plants of Setaria anceps cv. Nandi was grown and morphological variability was
studied. The objective was to analize the variability in this cultivar, in the Argentine Northeast selecting
plants with seed and herbage productivity potential. Attention was directed to vigour, insects and
diseases resistance, growth habit, tillering, heading sequence and head size. Selection was done in
two stages: after the first one twenty-eight plants were pre-selected, after the second stage a group of
six plants were selected by their outstanding characters. Plant number of selected plants were: 25, 39, 42, 84, 328 and 420. Evaluation for seed production and biomass productivity are currently under
study.
