Abstract

The action of seven Bradyrhizobium strains inoculated in two Centrosema pubescens cultivars (CIAT-442 and CIAT-5044) was studied using Leonard jar test. A randomized block design and five replications were used. DM yield, total N content and nodule number and weight were determined. Four strains (IH-1010, IH-1018, IH-1019 and IH-1049) were able to increase DM yields, total N content and nodulation of CIAT-442. IH-1018 was an outstanding strain with 4,40 g of DM yield and 141,9 ma of total N content which differed significatively from the treatment without inoculation (2,02 g of DM yield and 66,8 mg of total N content). Good response of CIAT-5044 cv. was only shown in three strains (IH-1018, IH-1035 and IH-1037). Highly significative differences (P<0,001) compared with the treatment without inoculation were recorded. IH-1018 strain was outstanding in this last cultivar. Although its behaviour was not equal. These effective strains produce a considerable improvement when they are inoculated in those mentioned cultivars of C. pubescens.
