An experiment was carried out in the seed bank of the Sugarcane Mill “José N. Figueredo” of the Río Cauto municipality, with the objective of studying the nutritive value of five sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) varieties, in order to use it as forage in animal feeding. A group was formed with the varieties Jaronú 60-5, Cuba 1051-73, Cuba 86-456, Cuba 323-68 and Cuba 120-78. From each variety, three samples of five plants each were taken, randomly selected in the plot; the fractions of stem, top, straw, CF, CP, DM, OM, ash, P and Co, as well
as OM digestibility to KOH and in situ digestibility were determined. Significant differences were found regarding stem, top and straw percentage among the varieties; while DM (33,01; 34,48 and 33,24%), CP (2,97; 2,32 and 2,45%), CF (30,28; 28,50 and 28,13%) and OM digestibility to KOH (62,75; 63,76 and 64,28%) did not
differ among themselves for the varieties Cuba 86-456, Cuba 323-68 and Cuba 120-78, respectively. The conglomerate analysis allowed to group the varieties Cuba 120-78, Cuba 86-456 and Cuba 323-68 according to the criterion of the chemical indicators CF and OM digestibility to KOH, which showed significant differences. The percentages of in situ digestibility, higher than 55% in the case of Cuba 120-78, Cuba 86-456 and Cuba 323-68 (60,42; 57,58 and 56,10, respectively), corroborated the forage character of these varieties.
