Abstract

The genus Arachis shows a complex taxonomy, it is distributed in South America and its forage species are found in tropical America. The most important species in Cuba is Arachis prostrata, although accessions of Arachis pintoi, Arachis marginata and Arachis glabrata have also been studied. A. prostrata has reached between 12,9 and 16,8 t DM/ha/year in association with other crops. They are adapted to soils of low fertility and acid pH, tolerate periodic flooding and drought, and are persistent to grazing.
