The effect of season and sowing time was studied in a randomized block design with four replications. The sown was made in June, July, September, November, January, March and May by means of the plough turn over method in a red hidrated ferralitic soil and 90-100 days age seeds. When the cultivated grass covered 75% of the area or more in one of the treatments, the establishment cutting was made; the rest cutting were applied every 60 days. The establishment of June and July treatments was found at 120 and 105 days respectively and they reached a production of 19,9 and 20,3 t of DM/ha without differences among them but from the rest (P<0,001) of the treatments which were established during 190 and 340 days. The sowings made in January and May were not found to be established at 340 days. The parameters of June and July establishment were not iqualy obtained by any other treatment so it means the evident superiority of these two sowing times for this specie. The wet season is recommended as the best period for star grass establishment and June and July are the most appropriated months.
